Disney asks Steve Jobs for help

October 14th, 2009

The New York Times reports that the Walt Disney Company has asked Apple CEO Steve Jobs, for help making the Disney retail stores a high-tech Imagination Park.

The Walt Disney Company wants to make it an experience to visit a retail store, like it is to visit an Apple retail store today and that’s one of the reasons they have asked Steve Jobs for help. Another reason is that Steve Jobs is already  a member of Disney’s Board of Directors, besides he is the largest individual Disney shareholder.

The new retail store concept from Disney will include theaters which allows children to watch film clips of their own selection, karaoke contests and live chat with Disney Channel stars via satellite. Also hidden features will be included, such as if you walk by a “magic mirror” while holding a Princess tiara, Cinderella might appear and say something to you.

Steve Jobs has just been named the “most influential individual in the global technology industry” for the second time, according to silicon.com, and now he’s also up against Donald Duck and Goofy in the competition of becoming the “most influential individual in the children’s world”. Good luck Steve.

TomTom car kit removed from Apple Online store

September 24th, 2009

Earlier today we wrote that the much anticipated TomTom Car kit for iPhone was appearing in the Apple Online Store, but now it has been removed.

The reason it has been removed is, that TomTom has sent out a short press release which confirms that the car kit DOES NOT include the TomTom iPhone app, which the original Apple Store ad told earlier today. This means that you have to buy the TomTom Car Kit and the TomTom navigation app separately. The application will be, according to TomTom, compatible with iPhone 2G, 3G and 3GS.

Apple gives us a new iPod family

September 9th, 2009

iPod familySo, Apple’s “It’s only Rock and Roll” media event has finally ended, and we must admit our high excitement about the newly announced updates. Some of the iPod rumors were true and some weren’t, but read about it below, where we cover all iPod updates Apple gave us today.

iPod Nano

As we have reported much evidence on, the entire iPod lineup has been completely refreshed. Especially the iPod Nano, which as received some pretty large updates, such as a camera with video recording capability, as well as voice over, FM radio and Genius Mix. The video recording is a huge feature for a music player of that size, which may put the iPod Nano in close competition with many other small and handy video cameras. The screen of the device is also slightly larger, now in 2.2 inches. It’s also got a microphone and a speaker to support the video recording, and a pedometer to make it compatible with Apple’s increasingly successful Nike+iPod program. iPod Nano is available in 8 GB and 16 GB versions for $149 and $179.

iPod Touch

Oh boy… Many rumors were right about the upgrades integrated in the new iPod Touch, but the most significant one wasn’t. So here we go: The iPod Touch did not receive a new camera. So what does that mean? That the iPod Touch is meant to be a gaming device and mustn’t receive a camera because it could take away some iPhone customers? Maybe, maybe not, but chances are that Apple is still working on integrating a camera to the iPod Touch, just not for this new version.

Anyway, the iPod Touch has received some major hardware and capacity upgrades, making the new models 50 % faster than the previous ones, and capable of running OpenGL ES 2.0. They now come in 32 GB and 64 GB models, and the cheapest one can be acquired even cheaper now – $50 down from $249 to $199.

iPod Shuffle

The new iPod Shuffle will be available in both 2 GB and 4 GB versions, priced from $59 and $79. Apple is also working with other companies to make even more headphones which are compatible with all of the iPod Shuffle features.

All that besides being available in new pink, green and blue colors. There is also a new stainless steel version, which can only be purchased through the online Apple Store. The stainless steel model will be priced at $99.

iPod Classic

Some sources claimed to believe that the iPod Classic would also receive a camera, but that hasn’t happened either. However, it is now available with 160 GB instead of 120 GB for $249. That’s it for the Classic.

Current iPods thinning out

August 30th, 2009

You want an iPod? Wait until Apple releases new models, because honestly it’s getting pretty difficult to acquire them at the moment. As we may have expected, many iPod selling stores report of limited iPods for purchase, and of little hope to get more of them before the next media event, which is to be held around the 9th of September. This is a sign that the rumors of the iPod refreshments could indeed be true. It has even sparkled old discussions of an iPod Classic with a camera. Most rumors and facts have indicated that the iPod Touch and the iPod Nano will leave the new Apple Stores, filming everyone one their way, but the iPod Classic could just as well receive a camera, according to newer reports.

We are still very excited about the upcoming keynote, and since we are not really sure who will be presenting it (Philip Schiller or the legendary CEO Steve Jobs), we would like to hear you guys who you believe gets to enter the scene at the Apple media event. Any ideas or guesses? And if you have, please also tell us what music you think the speaker will choose to play at the keynote. For example Steve and Philip tend to have pretty different taste of music. And after all, this event is most likely to be about music.
