And… Another 10.6.2 build

November 5th, 2009

Mac OS X 10.6.2 Build 10C540 has just been seeded to developers and contains several fixes, even though it arrives just one week after the otherwise most recent build. To sum it up shortly, the new Snow Leopard build fixes a pretty serious data loss issue, which was first mentioned around the 13th of October. The bug was apparently related to guest accounts, and resulted in loss of huge amounts of data.

Also, the new build contains full native support for the all new Magic Mouse as well as an Airport issue with the new iMac and VMware, which just introduced a new version with improved 3D graphics called VMware Fusion 3. Finally, the new build also contains several minor fixes, such as an Apple TV graphics improvement.

That’s all for this lunch, so go ahead and enjoy it!

Another 10.6.2 build – Fixes several major issues

October 10th, 2009

Today, the Apple developer community received another Mac OS 10.6.2 build (10C519f), which addresses major issues such as Core Data, video corruption and a problem which caused System Preferences to freeze.

The optical drive issue noted in the first Mac OS X Snow Leopard build (10C514f) however, does not yet seem to have been fixed. We therefore still advise developers and users to consider this, before they update to the latest build of Mac OS 10.6.2 and start testing it. We expect another build to be seeded soon, as there are still major issues left to be addressed.

Upcoming Flash from Adobe can export to iPhone Apps!

October 6th, 2009

Many companies regularly attempt to introduce new iPhone development tools, and some of these are widely used by many developers. However, to make great interfaces and to make the ways of developing iPhone Apps much easier, it often requires the companies to slightly violate a few of Apple’s rules, such as how open the Apps are supposed to be to interactive changes in the individual App. So there’ve always been a few problems…

But not any longer, because now Adobe has finally made a tool which has got some serious potential! First good thing is that it’s already used and pretty well known by many web and software developers around the world. Yeah, it’s Flash Professional CS5 and it’s coming far more powerful than ever, because now it has an option to export the entire Flash file to a native iPhone App. This means that every Flash mini-game, such as the well known Tetris and popular tower defense games, could arrive to the iPhone with a single click on “Export as iPhone App”, as it would then be compressed into an .ipa format, which is used by native iPhone Apps. And it reportedly works without violating any Apple and SDK requirements. As simple as making a Flash application, which only requires some knowledge in Actionscript, animations and graphics in general.

Adobe has already demonstrated 7 full featured applications, made with Flash Professional CS5, which have been accepted into the iTunes App Store and are for sale.

Mac OS 10.6.2 on the doorstep

October 6th, 2009

Since the operating system’s 28th August launch, only the 10.6.1 software update has been released. A new build (10C514f) of Mac OS X Snow Leopard was seeded to developers today, and includes a number of minor bug fixes. Interestingly though, is that the seed notes notify of a known issue with the optical drives, resulting in possible incapability of disc ejection and media recognition, which then means that the DVD Player may freeze when trying to read the disc. We strongly advise developers, who have interest in testing the new build, in keeping this in mind when installing the Mac OS 10.6.2 Build 10C514f.

Some of the most notable the fixes and improvements are: Address Book, Core Animation, Core Audio, Core Data, Core Graphics, Core Text, File Manage, Graphic drivers, Help Viewer, ImageKit, Networking, OpenGL, Speech Recognition, Sync Services and Xtype.

Also read our Snow Leopard review and enjoy your lunch!

iPhone developers get a new App Store resource center

September 19th, 2009

Previously there has been a lot of frustration from iPhone app developers, because Apple just sent out impersonal instructions when some developers got into problems while developing their Apps for the iPhone or iPod Touch, and those instructions lacked information and there was minimal opportunity for dialogue with the reviewers of the App. Those days are over now.

Yesterday, Apple informed iPhone developers that they had come up with a solution: App Store Resource Center. App Store Resource Center is designed to make it easier for iPhone developers to create and publish their new Apps to the iTunes App Store, and managing them once they have been posted.

The App Store Resource Center is for iPhone developer memberships only, and can be found here.

Here at AppleLunch, we have not designed any apps yet, but we’ve created a webapp which should make your AppleLunch reading much simpler on your iPhone or iPod Touch. Now, enjoy you weekend and your lunch.

Mac OS 10.6.1 released by Apple, upgrades Flash and more

September 11th, 2009

Earlier, we received reports from reliable sources, claiming to be among a narrowly trusted community of developers to whom the first build of Mac OS 10.6.1 was seeded. Now, after another build was released with only a few changes, Apple has finally released Snow Leopard’s first software update.

The update addresses many minor issues, such as DVD playback, unresponsive applications, printer drivers, Mail functionality, removing items from the Dock etc., as well as a Flash downgrade which caused decreased level of security and had to be updated. You can download the update through Apples built-in Software Update today.

10.6.1 seeded to trusted developers

September 4th, 2009

Several sources claim to have received invitations from Apple in testing the first software update for Mac OS 10.6, called 10.6.1. The update will most likely fix a number of minor issues, which were (some of them) mentioned in our recent series of Mac OS X Snow Leopard reviews. The new version is therefore being tested by a closed internal network of trusted developers, and should be ready for release anytime soon.

Even though the 10.6.1 update has only been distributed to a limited number of developers, more circles of developers may expect to be invited into the testing soon.
