Apple Wants iTunes to Replace Cable TV?

November 2nd, 2009

According to MediaMemo, Apple has reached out to TV Networks in recent weeks, proposing a $30-a-month subscription plan to deliver content to the users from iTunes.

Last week, Apple released the Apple TV 3.0 software update which allowed contents such as iTunes LP and iTunes Extras, and the next step might be delivery of TV content via iTunes, but not a single network have yet signed on to a plan. Though Disney might be willing to sign on, since Apple CEO Steve Jobs is the largest single shareholder, and Disney were also the first to allow its content on iTunes with a huge success.

The industry executives are reportedly intrigued to the idea of an iTunes subscription plan, as they are looking for alternatives to gain revenue because advertising keeps diminishing.

Apple discounts Apple TV 160GB

September 14th, 2009

Before the media event oapple-tv-01n Wednesday, rumors of a new Apple TV lineup appeared, but the  media event didn’t cover the Apple TV at all.

Now something happens about the Apple TV, because Apple has decided to discount the Apple TV 160GB model down to $229, which previously was the price of the 40GB model and the 40GB model has been dropped from the menu and this answers the change of the shipping dates two weeks ago.

There is a lot of speculations around which is about if the new iTunes LP is formatted specifically for the Apple TV. The new iTunes Extras is cut out to be for the Apple TV so it can compete against DVD discs. This leads to speculations about a major Apple TV software update, so the Apple TV finally will support iTunes LP end iTunes Extras.

Mac OS 10.6.1 released by Apple, upgrades Flash and more

September 11th, 2009

Earlier, we received reports from reliable sources, claiming to be among a narrowly trusted community of developers to whom the first build of Mac OS 10.6.1 was seeded. Now, after another build was released with only a few changes, Apple has finally released Snow Leopard’s first software update.

The update addresses many minor issues, such as DVD playback, unresponsive applications, printer drivers, Mail functionality, removing items from the Dock etc., as well as a Flash downgrade which caused decreased level of security and had to be updated. You can download the update through Apples built-in Software Update today.

Apple updates Flash in Snow Leopard update 10.6.1

September 4th, 2009

Earlier, when Apple first released its new major operating system Mac OS X Snow Leopard the 28th of August, the OS downgraded Flash to an older version, which came with several security issues. It is therefore important that the individual user, if he knows about it, updates Flash to the latest version manually.

However, in the recently seeded 10.6.1 update coming up for Snow Leopard, it seems that Apple addresses this issue. There have been many concerns about it and it has certainly caught Apple’s attention.

The new 10.6.1 software update contains the usual bug fixes and addresses many smaller issues, such as DVD playback, unresponsive applications, printer drivers, Mail functionality, removing items from the Dock etc. The seeded version is currently being tested by a limited audience and is 71.5 MB large.

10.6.1 seeded to trusted developers

September 4th, 2009

Several sources claim to have received invitations from Apple in testing the first software update for Mac OS 10.6, called 10.6.1. The update will most likely fix a number of minor issues, which were (some of them) mentioned in our recent series of Mac OS X Snow Leopard reviews. The new version is therefore being tested by a closed internal network of trusted developers, and should be ready for release anytime soon.

Even though the 10.6.1 update has only been distributed to a limited number of developers, more circles of developers may expect to be invited into the testing soon.
