New Tablet Rumors

October 27th, 2009

apple tabletBill Keller, The New York Times executive editor, talked to the digital group at The New York Times October 16th with focus on the next couple of months. In his speech he mentioned delivery of content to  mobile devices, including the “impending Apple slate.”

The New York Times is rumored to become a huge part in an upcoming Apple tablet device, that maybe will become the next generation of print media. No one knows, and Apple hasn’t announced anything about a tablet device yet, but according to The New York Times, they have been working on a tablet device for at least 6 years, and it is rumored to be released in February 2010.

Apple has been working on a tablet for at least 6 years

October 5th, 2009

apple tabletThe highly expected tablet device from Apple is not exactly a whole new idea that Apple has just come up with. According to the New York Times, former Apple engineer, Joshua A. Strickland, has told that Apple had been working on a tablet based device since at least 2003, and that device, which was only a prototype, was using a PowerPC chip made by I.B.M., and was so power hungry that that it was senseless to manufacture in big numbers, and it stayed as a prototype.

Now, six years later, rumors keep flying around that Apple will announce and release a tablet device next year. A device that Apple CEO, Steve Jobs earlier has described as “good for nothing except surfing the web in the bathroom,” but the success of the iPhone has apparently changed his mind.

More images of Microsoft booklet – Courier

September 30th, 2009

Since our latest published rumors of the Microsoft booklet of increasingly rising interest, called Courier, we have collected some new images of the product. Sources tell us that the earlier posted images and YouTube video are in fact of a late prototype of Courier. This means that the booklet’s look and shape may be finished and that Microsoft is planning a release, or official announcement, in the nearest future. There are no visual changes to the product in the images, and they seem to be of the same prototype.

The Microsoft booklet, Courier, will serve as electronic alternative to an ordinary notebook. It has multi-touch display, wireless Internet connection, integrated maps, address book, navigation and a neat interface which features several graphical interactive actions, such as clip & paste. It is understood as highly organized competition to Apple’s upcoming tablet, as Courier is said to have been under secret development ever since the first rumors of an Apple tablet went public.

New PC Tablet concept from Microsoft – Courier to compete with Apple Tablet

September 23rd, 2009
Possible design of coming Apple tablet?

Possible design of coming Apple tablet?

And while we are all waiting for more news of the rumored Apple Tablet, Microsoft reveals plans for a similar product. This places Microsoft and Apple in close competition around tablets, even though none of the companies have actually launched any of those devices. There are rumors that Microsoft has revealed their tablet concept this soon, because they try to appear ahead of Apple on the market. Being the first with this kind of revolutionary tablet, could be essential for a starting success. New rumors and possible evidence of an Apple tablet frequently rise, and though there are no trustworthy pictures of the product yet (as with the new Microsoft tablet), it is almost certain that Apple will introduce such a product within 2010.

172431-courier_188Microsoft’s tablet differs from others in some ways, since it hasn’t got any of the usual tablet OS integrations (yeah, not even Windows), but a tailored one made only for this product (so far). The PC Tablet is foldable, just as ordinary notebooks, and features a 7-inch display and is codenamed Courier. It does feature several functions new to the market, which focuses on basically converting all kinds of office tasks to electronic processes. This includes handwriting, clip and paste, copying, address book integrations and much more, everything in smooth graphics and with enabled multi-touch. In other words, the tablet is simply an advanced electronic notebook -- just with integrated address book, internet, photo sharing, camera etc. We have embedded the following video, which previews the device:

There are currently no indications of when Microsoft’s Tablet PC might arrive, but we’ll keep you posted as soon as we get any reports. Meanwhile, Apple’s tablet has been rumored to be official announced in February 2010 following the company’s traditional spring product updates and announcements. This does not mean however, that it will be launched in February, though it is likely that Apple launches the product shortly after the announcement has been made. Enjoy your lunch!

Apple Tablet to launch February 2010?

September 15th, 2009

There have been a lot of ongoing speculation about the much anticipated Apple Tablet. It is almost certain that it will arrive sometime, but it has never been clear when… nor exactly what’s in it. Two weeks before that recent “It’s only Rock and Roll” Apple media event, the device was rumored to be announced at the Keynote. However, there was no signs for such a device. Many reports also indicate that Apple’s CEO, Steve Jobs, has been working on an upcoming Apple Tablet, almost totally concentrated around it, since his return.

Apple TabletNow though, the rumor has been revived once again. Taiwan Economic News has posted a report which says that the Apple Tablet will launch in February 2010, and that it’s going to be priced from $799 to $999. This is based on the fact that DynaPack International Technology Corp just won a contract with Apple, which makes them an exclusive provider of up to 300,000 long lasting batteries a month.

Furthermore, the report claims many interesting details about the Apple Tablet, which are certainly subject for discussion, are they true or not? The device’s display will be 9.6 inches and is enabled as a large touch screen, even with multi-touch as the iPhone and iPod Touch. There will be built-in wireless 3G and it will contain both HSPDA (high speed download packet access) and P.A. SEMI processor chips. Also, since Apple tends to launch new products in February, which is shortly after their usual January keynote, it is likely that the Apple Tablet will see the light in February 2010.

So, this time perhaps… are the Apple Tablet rumors true?

Rising speculation about the Apple Tablet

September 4th, 2009

As following event of new clues, more and more rumors are popping up about the much anticipated Apple Tablet. The new discoveries and theories are based upon the fact that the Keyboard Viewer in Mac OS 10.6 (Snow Leopard) has been notably improved. One of the major improvements is that it can be resized to a pretty large window, which basically makes it “finger-friendly”, as the resized keyboard buttons easily fit a finger.

This could be another argument that Snow Leopard is in fact designed to work on touch screen devices, and that we may see an Apple Tablet coming later this year or early 2010.

Please note, that it is highly unlikely that we will see the assumably upcoming tablet at the next media event.

Coming Apple Tablet to be released in 13-15 inch models?

August 29th, 2009

According to some assumably reliable sources, a new report indicates even further expansion of the current Apple Tablet rumor. The new report suggests that Apple’s upcoming tablet will be made, not only in the anticipated 6 to 10 inches wide models, but also in models as large as 15 inches, which is pretty large for a tablet computer. It has always been of common understanding that the new tablet models will run an improved version of the iPhone OS (or smaller Mac OS X)… however, this new report believes one of the models (assumably the largest) will actually run a full Mac OS 10.6.

If it is indeed true, such a model will be normally competing with all current tablets on the market, which grows every day, and for Apple to successfully penetrate the market with a tablet computer, the model will require some high level of innovation. Tablets running Mac OS X have already been seen in industry, which means that Apple will need some additional creativity in the device, to gain respect and positive publicity. The rumor, since it is still unconfirmed, indirectly says that we are actually going to see two very different Apple Tablets, since the smaller ones may be great for playing games and writing quick notes on the fly, while the larger models will be pretty much a replacement for office Macs whose owners doesn’t need anything more than a pen or fingers to navigate and use the computer. But as said before, it is highly improbable that Apple will “just release a tablet”. If they make the larger models, they will undoubtedly guaranteed come with something which doesn’t replace their other Macs.

The new tablets have been rumored to arrive in early 2010. There is a possible announcement of them in the upcoming media even, but it remains unlikely.

Apple to hold media event on the 9th of September?

August 26th, 2009

Apple KeynoteThere is currently much speculation going on, as to which day Apple has actually scheduled their upcoming Keynote for September. The majority of sources indicate a media event for the second week of September, which is the week of the 7th. Many even say it’s going to be exactly the 9th of September, which would break their traditions, as Apple usually hold their media events on Tuesdays. This time though, it’s a Wednesday.

If the September keynote sticks to the traditions of product announcements and updates, it could very well be related to music products such as iTunes and iPod. We may also see some extended explanation or reveals of the new Quicktime X or Mac OS 10.6 Snow Leopard, which will both be released the 28th of August, yet many reports indicate a new product announcement. Unconfirmed observations also believe additional accessory support to be introduced along with changes to the Mac product line, focusing on notebooks. This may lead to stationary docking stations for the MacBook family or perhaps further display compatibility, not necessarily, of course, produced by Apple, but third party companies.

Steve Jobs

The CEO as the main keynote speaker of Apple

Also, one of the main subjects about the media event, is if the Apple CEO Steve Jobs will be attending the event as keynote speaker. Will he? No one knows for sure, especially not since he didn’t participate in the most recent keynote the 8th of June, even though it was scheduled after his return to Apple and his liver transplant, which originally caused him to quit working for a time, yet still remaining as CEO. However, the legendary CEO has reportedly shown unusual secrecy and intensive work among an upcoming product, which many believe to be the much anticipated Apple Tablet. If a such new product is in fact ready for announcement in September, there is good reason to count on Steve Jobs’ participation, since he seems to be at the center of the product’s development. It is still, however, not sure if a Tablet will actually be announced at the upcoming keynote. If Steve will not be presenting the next keynote, it is most likely Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing, who will be the primary speaker at the keynote.

AppleLunch will do some research and have a list available with recommended feeds of the Keynote, which provides live documentation directly from the media event itself.

Is Apple going to release a Tablet?

August 26th, 2009

Is this how the probably-upcoming tablet will look like?

Is this how the probably-upcoming tablet will look like?

According to many rumors, Apple CEO Steve Jobs has got an ace up his sleeve. Since his return to the Apple Inc. office in late June this year, he has been very focused on a new touch-screen device which is, according to rumors, an Apple Tablet, but what would this tablet be like? Still there is no official announcement from Apple about a tablet, but it is almost a fact that there is a media event coming up in early September and it will deal with the music industry. The September Media events occurring in September, tend to relate to the music industry, and as e.i. last year in September they announced iTunes 8 and a new iPod model, so it would make sense to believe the next September keynote to be about music as well.

The Wall Street Journal reports that an Apple employee express displeasure because Steve Jobs has taken away much of their freedom in their work and driven a strict leading behavior particularly in the advertising and marketing strategy on a certain product, which according to rumors is the upcoming Tablet.

Jobs’ attention to the product is comparative to the time just before the iPhone was announced so is this a coincident or an adverse effect from his liver transplant? No, there has to be something going on about a secret product, which (by gathering all reports and rumors) seems to be a Tablet. Sources tell that Apple has had many problems with the power consumption and later with the video memory in the devices, which could be a reason they haven’t officially told anyone about it yet.
